BFUSA Bids Farewell to Becky Fallon

Published On: April 30, 2024|

Becky Fallon, MSN, who has been with Baby-Friendly for six years, will be retiring in May 2024. BFUSA thanks Becky for her commitment to excellence and dedicated service throughout those years and wishes her well in her retirement.

Becky came to BFUSA in January 2018 as a Quality Improvement Manager. She was promoted to Director of Accreditation in January 2022.

Perhaps what has made Becky so good at her job is that she spent most of her career as a bedside nurse. She graduated from Mass General Hospital School of Nursing in 1980, then from St. Joseph’s College of Maine with a BSN in 2010, and finally from Duke University with an MSN in 2013. She worked at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont, and St. Jude Medical Center, a Baby-Friendly designated hospital in Fullerton, California. She became an adjunct clinical instructor at Biola University in La Mirada, California, and then taught fulltime in the BSN program for four years after finishing her master’s degree. Becky and Arnie, her husband of 41 years, moved back east in 2017. Shortly after that, she began working for BFUSA.

Becky says what she has enjoyed most about her time at BFUSA is helping facilities identify and address barriers to implementing Baby-Friendly practices.

“Facilities sometimes need help to adjust their plans and correct their path,” she says. “I always enjoy seeing when facilities are successful in implementing those changes.”

She’s also proud of the work she contributed to the Sixth Edition of BFUSA’s Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria and helping to get the Sixth Edition evaluations off the ground.

“It was a great team effort. I think as an organization, we should be really proud of that,” she says.

But most of all, Becky says she will miss the people at Baby-Friendly USA.

“I’ve enjoyed working with all of them,” she says.

Becky will be dedicating her last few weeks at BFUSA to helping train her successor, Melissa Cho, BSN, RN, IBCLC. Melissa joined BFUSA as an assessor in 2022 and has experience with both the virtual and on-site assessment formats. Becky says that knowledge will be very helpful in the role.

What will her retirement look like? Becky plans to rest and relax, spend time with her grandchildren, and travel with Arnie.

Well deserved, Becky. Enjoy!
